The client had seen a picture on Pinterest and saved it as the inspiration for her living room fireplace/TV cabinet. However, her vision was not quite realised and she was left disappointed by the result. The Interior Designer had me come down to the house in Hampshire to see what I could do.
The cabinet was faced with Formica and the fireplace was microcement. I realised I would need to carefully prep the surfaces in order to change them. I used a clear primer on the microcement and mixed a glaze to darken it. On the Formica a special primer was needed in order to make the paint stick to it. After priming I used a good quality grey paint as a base for the glaze. The client wanted a matte look so I sealed it first with a satin varnish, for strength and then 2 coats of flat. The client was much happier as now the fireplace/TV Cabinet looked a lot more like her inspiration photo. |
