Making a triumph of a mistake

The client had seen a picture on Pinterest and saved it as the inspiration for her living room fireplace/TV cabinet.
However, her vision was not quite realised and she was left disappointed  by the result. The Interior Designer had me come down to the house in Hampshire to see what I could do.
The cabinet was faced with Formica and the fireplace was microcement. I realised I would need to carefully prep the surfaces in order to change them. I used a clear primer on the microcement and mixed a glaze to darken it.

On the Formica a special primer was needed in order to make the paint stick to it. After priming I used a good quality grey paint as a base for the glaze. The client wanted a matte look so I sealed it first with a satin varnish, for strength and then 2 coats of flat.

The client was much happier as now the fireplace/TV Cabinet looked a lot more like her inspiration photo.

Concrete effect in a Bathroom

Concrete is a huge trend at the moment and it's easy to get the look with the right plaster.

One of our recent projects was this very stylish and modern bathroom. The client wanted something special for the TV wall. I used a Marmorino plaster with a lot of aggregate to give us a textured and yet smooth finish. This is lime plaster from Italy and is perfect for a bathroom as lime plaster can get wet and will dry out. (Think Venice!) She was looking for a Wow! statement so I designed and cut a stencil and created a column of copper metallic flames.
The great thing about working with a Specialist Decorator like me is you can create a unique look for your home.
